Georgiann T. Knauer

Georgiann T. Knauer, 76, of Landenberg, PA passed away peacefully with her family by her side on May 21, 2021. Georgiann was born August 24, 1944 in Salem, NJ to the late Dr. George J. Treires and Chrisanthe (Pappas) Treires. When her father returned from service in WWII, the family moved to Lock Haven, PA. Growing up, she was a girl scout and participated in Rainbow for Girls. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Carnegie Mellon University, where she enjoyed her time as a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Following graduation, Georgiann was involved in early childhood education. She first worked in the Pittsburgh Public Schools and subsequently owned and operated nursery schools from the early 1970’s through 1984. During this time, she had five children who were her pride and joy. In 1984, she and the children moved to Hockessin, DE. Two years later, she obtained her Delaware real estate license and began working for Patterson Schwartz. After retiring from real estate in 1999, she continued to pursue her love of educating young children by occasionally substitute teaching and supporting local preschools. Georgiann was also a long-time member of Christ Church Christiana Hundred in Greenville, DE. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with family, traveling the country with her husband Ken, and socializing with friends.

She is survived by her husband Kenneth Knauer of Landenberg, PA, who has been by her side every step of the way during their almost 28 years of marriage. Furthermore, she leaves behind children Dean (Pam) Geracimos of Ocean City, MD, Kristin Becker of Hockessin, DE, Ryan (Eva) Geracimos of Landenberg, PA, Darin (Nicole) Geracimos of Doylestown, PA, and stepchildren Michael Knauer of Norristown, PA, and Kim Knauer of Pottstown, PA. In addition, she is survived by her two sisters Diane Georgelis and Joan Giovanis, and 11 grandchildren (Nicholas and Alexandra Geracimos; Andrew and Grant Becker; Abbigail, Claire, and Ian Geracimos; Natalie, Emma, and Lily Geracimos; and Enno Wilson) She is preceded in death by her son Steven Geracimos and her brother John Treires.

The viewing and funeral service will be held at 10:00AM, May 28, 2021 at Chandler Funeral Home, Hockessin DE. Private interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Alzheimer’s Association, alz.org.

Our sincere condolences to the whole family. Georgiann was my very good friend from grade school and beyond. I knew her whole family and my mother worked as a nurse at her father's doctor practice. Later she, Ken, Lee and I had many good times together. May she rest in peace and may you always have fond memories of her. I know I will. So sorry for your loss. Sincerely, Bev and Lee Sweitzer

Mrs. Knauer taught my daughter, Lizzy at 4 year old group at Ebenezer Preschool in 2004. She was so encouraging and loving to all the students. She saw their strengths and patiently helped them to overcome any weaknesses. Such a kind and gracious woman. May God’s grace shine upon her and keep her. She has a special place in the hearts of all the students lives she touched. Heartfelt condolences to her family.
