It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, George Psihalinos, on February 17th, 2025, at the age of 86. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of his family. This loss leaves an immeasurable void in our hearts, but the richness of his life and the legacy he leaves behind offer a profound comfort.
Born in Athens, Greece, in September 1938, to Athanasios and Fani Psihalinos, our father, whom friends and family affectionately called him “Psihala” lived a life that embodied strength, resilience, and unwavering devotion to his family. His childhood in Greece, shared with his brother Theodore, instilled in him a deep sense of loyalty and a warmth that touched everyone he met. His bond with Theodore remained a constant source of strength throughout his life.
His marriage to Athina (Siskopoulou) Psihalinos was a testament to enduring love and unwavering commitment, a partnership that spanned an incredible 53 years. Together, they built a loving home and raised three sons: Athanasios (and his wife, Magdalini), Nicholas (and his wife, Aristea), and Demetrios (and his wife, Anthoula). Their family legacy extends to eight cherished grandchildren, who brought immense joy and countless happy moments to Pappou’s life. Each grandchild held a special place in his heart, and his eyes always twinkled when they were near.
In 1969, George embarked on a new chapter, leaving his beloved Greece to pursue the American Dream and secure a brighter future for his family. He worked tirelessly, first at a Marlboro machine shop and later at the Heinz factory, before realizing his lifelong ambition: founding Nick’s Pizzeria in 1976. This wasn’t merely a business; it was a testament to his unwavering work ethic, his dedication to providing for his family, and his profound belief in the possibilities of America. From its humble beginnings, Nick’s Pizzeria flourished under his guidance, growing into the respected institution it is today, with multiple locations throughout South Jersey, each successfully run by his sons, a true reflection of his enduring legacy.
George was more than a successful businessman; he was a man of exceptional character. His inherent kindness, his generosity of spirit, and his unwavering support were a source of strength and inspiration to our family and to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His quiet strength, his steadfast resolve, and his infectious sense of humor brightened even the darkest days. We will forever cherish the memories of his laughter, his wisdom, and most of all, his unconditional love.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in his name to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
Condolences
