Garry H. and Shirley P. Laupheimer

Garry Hanlon Laupheimer passed away on October 15, 2018. Garry was born in 1938 in New Orleans, LA, and raised in Stamford, CT. He graduated from Stamford High School and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln.

Garry was an avid hunter, angler and wood worker as well as an amateur blacksmith. His daughters and grandsons treasure the creations he left behind and the numerous bad jokes he told (“Garry-isms”). Garry also had a deep interest in other cultures. He loved to learn and use different languages.

Garry was preceded in death by his parents, H. Lawrence and Mayme E. (Hanlon) Laupheimer.

Shirley Phyllis (Shiff) Laupheimer passed away on November 8, 2021. Shirley was born in 1939 in Omaha, NE. She graduated from Central High School and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in education from University of Nebraska – Lincoln. Shirley also earned a master’s degree +30 in special education from Widener University (Chester, PA). She was a special education teacher working at schools throughout the Christina School District for 27 years. Upon retirement, Shirley stayed busy tutoring. She truly loved being a teacher and had a great fondness for her students.

In addition to her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel W., and Bertha (Slutzkin) Shiff.

The family would like to thank the 1st floor staff at Cadia Silverside for providing compassionate care to Shirley over the last few years.

Garry and Shirley met on a blind date while attending the University of Nebraska and were married on August 14, 1961.

Garry and Shirley are survived by their daughters, Robin (Michael Strycharz) of Alexandria, VA, and Amy (Joseph Colonna) of Wilmington, DE as well as two beloved grandsons, Connor McCartan (Newark, DE) and Owen McCartan (Wilmington, DE).

As both were avid animal lovers, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to an animal charity of your choice.

Funeral Services

As in life they will be together in death. They will be laid to rest in the Laupheimer family plot in Sedalia, MO.

I have fond memories of you and your family. Your mom was always a real nice lady your dad was the same way. I can remember coming to your house and hanging out and they would always give us you know snack and something to drink. My heart goes out to you and your family.
