Floyd A. Raymond

Floyd A. Raymond, a wonderful, kind-spoken man, passed away at Foulk Manor North nursing home in Wilmington, Delaware on February 18, 2022 at the age of 85. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to the late Samuel Grandison and Mildred Ruth Anderson Raymond.

Floyd grew up working on the family farm in Fruit Heights, Davis County, Utah. He attended the local schools in Davis County and went on to further his education at Utah State College and the University of Idaho earning his Master’s and PhD degrees in Chemistry.

His first marriage was in 1960 to the late Ethel Deon Orton. They were blessed to have three children: Brian (Carol) Raymond, Raedene (Judd) Andrus, and Carl (Caroline) Raymond.

He found love again in 1986, when he married Joyce Ann Edmiston Castellaw. She brought two adult children to the marriage: Debra Castellaw (Bill) Deane and Gary (Lori) Castellaw.

Floyd worked for DuPont, a chemical industry company, for most of his career. In addition to science, Floyd loved genealogy. In his younger years, he enjoyed traveling the United States researching his family’s roots. He loved these trips and could often be found on them with his late brother, Farrel Gene (the late Verla) Raymond or his sister, Barbara (Ted) Spendlove.

Floyd is survived by 19 grandchildren: Briana, Brittany, Jeffrey, Julie, William, Janae, Chris, Bryson, Jacob, Janelle, Ashley, Karly, Catie, Daniel, Conner, Taylor, Cassie, Kendall, and Connor as well as many in-law grandchildren. He is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren (with another 3 on the way) and many nieces and nephews. He loved them all and always wished he could have lived closer to them so he could have spent more time with them.

Floyd was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully whenever asked. He loved the Lord, our Savior, Jesus Christ.

We would like to thank all of the nurses and workers at Foulk Manor North who helped take care of Floyd in his time of need.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 9:30 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (in Westover Hills), 143 Dickinson Lane, Wilmington, Delaware 19807. Burial will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle, Delaware.

I remember Floyd and Deon’s wedding reception in Heyburn and open house at Floyd’s parents home in Fruit Heights. After the party, Floyd and Deon changed out of their wedding clothes( no small feat as Deon’s dress had very long row of covered buttons all down the back to undo) and climbed out the window to make their escape. I saw them and gave out the alarm that they were escaping. Mom (Ethel Orton) came running out just as their get away car pulled up. Deon and Floyd got in and Mom tried to get in the car with them but was pushed out and the car sped away! Their plan worked and they were off to their honeymoon. Memories of Floyd by Lora Orton Elton

    Lily Meiners FIFE writes,
My first remembrance of the Raymonds was when I was young and we used to go to their cherry farm and pick cherries in Fruit Heights, Utah. They were the best cherries I had ever tasted and I still feel the same way today. Floyd's parents were always so nice to us and my parents liked them a lot. I remember Gene and Barbara being there, too. After I graduated from college and was still single, Deon invited me out to Delaware to stay with them for awhile. She wanted me to meet her single friend, Lee Porter who was in her ward. So I went and Lee took me on a trip up to Boston. We had a great time. When I returned I found a few pictures of wedding dresses cut from a magazine under my pillow. But somehow I knew that wasn't to be. Deon and Floyd were good to me and took me to see some of the sites in the area. I always liked Floyd, his smile and little chuckle. Brian, Raedene and Carl are some of my special nephews and niece and I have visited all three in their homes. Dave and I send our condolences. Aunt Lily Meiners Fife, Ethel's sister
