Elizabeth Pearce Van Leeuwen, age 93, died on December 25, 2019, at her residence in Cokesbury Village. She was the daughter of the late Frances Patterson and Thomas White Pearce of Greenville, DE.
Mrs. Van Leeuwen was a graduate of Tower Hill School and attended
Wellesley College in Wellesley, MA. She was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America in Delaware and the Junior League of Wilmington, where she was a past president, a former board member of the Wilmington Flower Market, as well as the Children’s Bureau, and a long time member of Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church, where she once served as a Deacon. She was a former member of Wilmington Country Club and Greenville Country Club.
She ran a wedding consulting and party planning business from her home until the age of 82 when she retired.
Mrs. Van Leeuwen is survived by her son, F. Bartholomew Van Leeuwen II (Janet) of Powhatan, VA, daughter Elizabeth V. Ernst (Steven) of Newark, DE, five grandchildren, Frances V. Linus (Scott), Frank B. Van Leeuwen III, Andrew P. Ernst (Brie), Elizabeth E. DiMarco (John), Melanie L. Van Leeuwen, and seven great-grandchildren, Olivia and Chase Linus, Cailyn Gallagher, Genevieve and Penelope Ernst, Elizabeth and Michael DiMarco.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 11:00 am at Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church, Greenville, DE. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the memorial fund at Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church, 101 Old Kennett Road, Wilmington, DE 19807.
