Elizabeth Mae (Betty) Dunlop, (nee Frankel) passed away peacefully on May 22nd and now rests in the presence of our Lord. She was devoted in her faith and looked forward to the day she would again join her parents, brothers and beloved husband, David (Scotty).
Born in Wilmington, DE to the late Elizabeth and Alexander Frankel, Betty was raised in a caring, nurturing family along with her brothers and the company of several cousins. Betty graduated from the original Wilmington High School and worked as a secretary for the DuPont Company. After meeting and marrying the love of her life in 1949, Dave and Betty enjoyed sun, sand and ocean, managing several seasonal businesses in Ocean City, MD and Ft. Lauderdale, FL for many years. They eventually returned to work in the retail industry, retiring in the early 1990’s and settling in Rehoboth Beach and Wilmington, DE. In later years, she resided and made many lasting friendships at Woodlea in Pike Creek, Wilmington, DE.
Betty enjoyed cooking meals with fresh grown produce from Dave’s garden. She enjoyed a good restaurant, especially weekly dining and movies with best friend Pauline and son Ron Jones. She always looked forward to time spent with family, friends and extended family, particularly special family functions and events. She was inspirational for her grace, love of fun times and impeccable penmanship. Betty loved children, her nieces and nephews, the beach, her pets and peanut M&M’s. Betty was interested in and enjoyed Bible study tremendously. For many years, she enjoyed the congregational fellowship of First Alliance Church.
Those who pre-decease Betty include her spouse, David T. Dunlop, parents Elizabeth and Alexander Frankel, brothers Samuel Frankel, Albert Frankel and William Rittenhouse, a niece Ann Frankel, her dear friend Pauline Carter and numerous family and close friends. Betty is survived by her sisters-in-law, Dorothy Frankel, Frances Rittenhouse and Agnes Williams. She will also be missed by a number of loving and caring nieces, nephews, their children, extended family and close friends. Throughout Betty’s life, various family and friends made a deep impact on her journey. The family is particularly grateful to Sandra Bryson, Dorothy Davis, the Kanick Family (Lisa, Deborah, Kimberly and Beth) and Ron Jones for the love and caring shown to Betty. Pauline Carter forever holds a unique bond of friendship with Betty, whom she viewed as the sister she never had. The family also wishes to thank Heartland Hospice, especially Shannon, to the caregivers and many friends at Cadia Pike Creek who can truly say they knew Betty, and to her many friends at Woodlea for their kindness and friendship.
