Elizabeth “Betty” DeNight Baird

Elizabeth “Betty” DeNight Baird, age 93 of Newark, DE, passed away on June 12, 2017, surrounded by loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years William (Brub) G. Baird, Jr. Betty was devoted to her family and friends, full of kindness, joy, and enthusiasm. She was beloved by all who knew her with her infectious laugh and exclamations of “Holy Buckets!”

Betty was a lifelong athlete in field hockey and basketball at A.I. DuPont High School, as well as the Wilmington Bomberettes as a player/captain/coach, and an All American Field Hockey player. She was an avid golfer for over 60 years where she excelled by winning 21 DuPont Country Club Championships, as well as winning the 1978 Delaware State Senior Championship title.

Betty is survived by her daughter Cheryn Coleman, granddaughter Heather Ferguson and husband John, 2 great-granddaughters Sydnee and Carlee Ferguson, Sister-in-law Elva Johnson, 2 nieces Jacqueline Loebe Nenneman and Toni Vincent Stevens, and several grand nieces, nephews, and cousins.
