Eftihia Atsidis, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 20th. She was born in 1937 in Oinousses, Greece, to George and Maria Vourlos and spent her early years growing up inside the historic Castle (Castro) of Chios. The eldest of four siblings, Eftihia and her family became refugees in Cyprus during World War II.
At the age of 18, Eftihia immigrated to the United States with her family, settling in Delaware. Determined and hardworking, she took night classes to learn English and held jobs at Wilmington Dry Goods and Govatos Chocolate.
In 1958, she married the love of her life, Kostas Atsidis, and together they built a beautiful life and family. Eftihia was known for her love of cooking and gardening, but above all, she cherished time spent with her family and embraced her role as a devoted Yiayia. She often fondly recalled her days on her father’s boat in Chios, sharing stories that reflected her deep love for her heritage. A faithful member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Eftihia lived a life rooted in love, tradition, and faith.
She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Maria Vourlos; her brothers, Kyriakos and Konstantinos Vourlos; her sister, Sophia Pittas; and her son-in-law, Nicholas Calliagas.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Kostas Atsidis; her children, Nick, George, and Katerina; her grandchildren, Dino (Amanda), Zoe, Markella, Lexy, Mihali (Jordan), and Konstantine; and her great-grandchildren, Nikolas and Leonidas.
