Edward Joseph Williams, Jr.

Edward (Ned) Joseph Williams, Jr., passed away on April 23, 2020 at the age of 65. Ned grew up on his family’s dairy farm in Hockessin where he enjoyed taking care of the cows, calves and crops, and working on farm equipment. He graduated from Alexis I. duPont High School and studied agriculture at the University of Delaware. He was a member of 4-H and Pencader Grange.

Ned always had a positive attitude and cheerful greeting for everyone. His favorite times were spent with family at gatherings on the farm, at White Crystal and Lewes.  He enjoyed watching the Phillies and Flyers.

Ned was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Rhoena Williams. He is survived by his brother Neal Williams of Hockessin, and sisters Julia (Jeff) Punderson of Easton, MD, Patricia (Alan) Carothers of Johns Island, SC and Naomi (Michael) McCafferty of Wilmington.

Special thanks to all the staff at Brandywine Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for their wonderful care of Ned over the last 10 years. They are his family too.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic a memorial service will be held at a future date. Ned will be laid to rest next to his parents in the cemetery at Hockessin Friends Meeting.

I knew Ned from high school, and remember him as a kind and quiet guy. I don't know where his life's journey took him, but I do recall his love of cars and all things farming. There was a great quote in the yearbook about how he enjoyed driving a tractor down Limestone Road. That sounds right! He remains a part of all of us in the Class of '73. I am so sorry for your loss.

Sean Mulrooney lit a candle and writes,
I have only known Ned in his final years at Brandywine nursing home, but the time that I've seen him he was everyone's friend. I would come into the nursing home to see my grandmother and would also talk with all the residents around the facility, and every so often I would see Ned surrounded by his friends and community playing a game, watching tv, or having a meal. And then there was Nancy. They were 2 peas in a pod and would be together wherever they went. If you asked them if they were lovers, Nancy would say yes, but Ned would always give a chuckle and say "no way hosie!" When Nancy passed way, I will never forget how sad he was when I came In afterwards. But as we remember Ned for the love he gave to us, we must look with hope that he is in a better place and surrounded by loved ones, including Nancy.

Jeanne Morris lit a candle and writes,
I'm writing on behalf of the Morris Family. We had the pleasure of knowing Ned from Brandywine as he was table mate with my father-in-law, Carl Morris. Ned was such a great guy and it was nice being able to sit with him as we visited with my father-in-law. It was so hard to believe that Ned passed, as we lost my father-in-law the very next day. We will keep your family in our thoughts and prayers.
