Edward Joseph Finnegan

Edward Joseph Finnegan died suddenly on August 10, 2024, at the age of 83. He was a beloved husband, father, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Eddie was born in 1941 in Philadelphia, PA to James and Anne Finnegan. He met and then married Ann Gellert in October 1966. He served as a military police officer in Korea during the Vietnam War. He returned to Philadelphia to work as a printer for Chilton followed by several other printing companies. Eddie began his career as a correctional officer in Delaware County, PA thereafter. He and Ann retired to Wilmington, DE to be closer to family. Eddie was a simple man who loved being with his family, bowling, watching sports (especially his Philadelphia teams), fishing, playing cards, being at the beach, and visiting natural areas.

He was preceded in death by his father James, mother Anne, two brothers James and John (Sue) and his aunt Mary Street.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ann, his son, Brian (Donna), daughter, Denise Jarrell (J. Mark), three grandchildren, KerriAnn (Cristian), Connor (Arsenia), and Abby and great-grandson, Miles. He will also be remembered by his two nieces and two nephews, their children, his cousin Charlie Street (Frannie) and his many friends and neighbors.

J, Joan & Reagan Jacobs writes,
Ann & Family, It’s tough for words to express ourselves. Our memories of Eddy are long, deep and fond. I would like to think we have been close to the entire family for the past 30 years watching everyone grow in their own. This missing link in the family chain can only be replaced with all those long, deep and fond memories. Certainly, no one…nothing otherwise…could replace our Eddie. Peace from us to the entire Finnegan family. Peace to my buddy, Eddie. I will long and always miss you! J, Joan & Reagan
