Dr. Emilio “Loy” Valdes

Dr. Emilio “Loy” Valdes left this world peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on January 3, 2025.

Born in the Philippines to the late Emilio Valdes Sr. and the late Angustia Rodriguez, Loy exemplified excellence both academically and athletically. Despite his humble demeanor, he earned the respect of his peers as class president and captain of the basketball team.

After completing his ENT residency in the US, Loy and his family faced the challenges of immigration to Delaware with unwavering determination, arriving with just $500 and no medical license. Through perseverance and dedication, he became Double Board Certified in Otolaryngology and Immunology, establishing two thriving practices in Wilmington and New Castle, DE. His passion for his profession allowed him to make a profound impact on the lives of many underprivileged families, priests, and sisters. Loy’s deep humility and compassion resonated with those he served, giving strength to those who felt voiceless.

He is survived by his beloved children Emilio “JJ” Valdes (Chris) and Dr. Carlos Chuck Valdes (Stewart Lucas), his siblings Ephram Valdes, Gloria Serame (the late Fred Serame), Roger Valdes (Ching), Marivi Valdes, Jing Valdes; and his cherished grandchildren, Benjamin and Jonathan Valdes.
