Doris Hackman

Doris Singleton Hackman, age 99, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at St. Francis Hospital, Wilmington, Delaware. Doris was born in February of 1925 at P.S. Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware, the daughter of Charles Singleton and Helen Taylor. Doris graduated from P.S. DuPont High School in January 1943.

Following graduation Doris embarked on several employment opportunities including the DuPont company, Wilmington Trust Bank and Artisans’ Bank, to name a few. Doris was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, and later, Hockessin United Methodist Church. Doris enjoyed spending time with family and friends and traveling the world. She was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan.

Doris is survived by her son Charles (Chuck) Jr. and his wife Donata with whom she lived with for the last eight years and was grateful for the care given by them. Three grandchildren: Christopher M. Rotan, Jennifer L. Hackman, and Carlie D. Hackman, three great-grandchildren: Mckenzie Murphy, Nolan Murphy and Maddox Murphy, her sister Shirley Strouss, niece Terri Mingoia (John), nephews Keith Strouss (Tara) David Strouss (Delores) and her forever dear friend Mary Gallagher.

    One evening I was visiting with Donata and Chuck and Doris came dancing into the kitchen. She got a wine glass and proceeded to pour herself a hefty glass of wine. I said to Doris what are you celebrating….she said it’s almost Jeopardy time!!
