Donald Nicholas Buckner

Donald Nicholas Buckner, age 88, of Wilmington, DE., passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 following a brief illness surrounded by his loved ones.

Donald was born in 1935 in Baltimore, Maryland, son of the late Nicholas Buckner and Mary Ellen Cochran Buckner. He graduated from Baltimore City College in 1953 and earned his Bachelors in mechanical engineering at the University of Maryland in 1964.

He worked for the DuPont Company and ICI/Astra Zeneca as a project manager. He retired from Astra Zeneca in 1999. Donald was a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Delaware. He served as an usher and on the property committee for the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for over 50 years. He was a member of the Delaware Veterans Association and volunteered at the Ministry of Caring and the Salvation Army.

Donald is predeceased by his daughter Loretta Buckner. He is survived by the love of his life,  his wife of 61 years, Phyllis Buckner, his daughter Kimberly Bassich, of Ocean City, MD., his granddaughter, Brittany Buckner, of Kansas City, MO., his grandsons; Ryan Bassich, of Lake Charles, LA., Jesse Bassich and his wife Jessie, of Laurel, MD., Dylan Bassich and his wife Chi, of Jessup, MD.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 4701 Weldin Rd, Wilm., DE 19803. A Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Donald’s name may be made to the Ministry of Caring, 115 E. 14th St., Wilm., DE 19801.

Funeral Services

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 4701 Weldin Rd, Wilm., DE 19803. A Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Interment will be private.
