Donald Dresser

Donald “Don” Dresser, age 94, of Hockessin, DE, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.  

Born in November of 1930, in New York City, NY, Don was the son of the late Malcolm and Patricia (Seabury) Dresser.  

After graduating as Student Body President from Windham Ashland Jewett Central School in Windham, NY, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps, specializing as a Teletype Operator, where he served 4 years. He graduated with his master’s from Cornell University where he played Varsity Soccer and is a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity.  

He worked at the forefront of data integration as a computer systems consultant for DuPont for thirty-two and a half years.  

After retiring, Don and Rose Marie enjoyed traveling the world, along with visiting all 50 states. He was an avid golfer and gardener who also enjoyed bowling, baseball, wildlife, and going to the beach.  

Don is survived by and will be greatly missed by his five children, Tom (Mary), Bonnie, Donna Wyre, Kathy Mendala (Jim) and William. He was a much-loved Granddaddy to his 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.  

He is also survived by siblings, Patty Hinman, Alice Pusateri, and Betsy Rufo.  

Don was preceded in death by his wife Rose Marie after 66 years of marriage, his son-in-law John Wyre, grandson Samuel Wyre, beloved faithful canine friend Sophie, brother Ronny Schiavo, sister Fran Soucy, and brother Doug Dresser. 

A service to celebrate Don’s life will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 1:00 pm at St. Mary of the Assumption 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.  

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution to The Nature Conservancy, 555 E. North Lane Suite 6030, Conshohocken, PA, 19428; or your favorite nature charity. 

 

Funeral Services

A service to celebrate Don’s life will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 1:00 pm at St. Mary of the Assumption 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

    I will always remember my uncle with happiness. He had a great smile and was devoted to my aunt Rosemarie and his family. He lived a full and wonderful life enjoying not just a fantastic career at DuPont but many years of retirement: gardening, camping, playing golf and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
