David S. Loveland, III

David S. Loveland, III, age 72 of Hockessin, DE and Rehoboth Beach, DE died Sunday, April 15th, 2018 at his home in Rehoboth Beach after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in 1946 in Wilmington, DE to the late David S. Loveland Jr. and Elizabeth B. Loveland. In 2008, after 35 years of service, he retired from Artisans’ Bank where he was a Sr. Vice President. He loved his work and colleagues in the Artisans’ family. During his banking career he served as President of the Delaware Association of Bank Security. David graduated from Dickinson High School in 1964. While there he was active in student council, baseball and tennis. After graduation he served as a member of the planning committee of each of his class reunions. Keeping in touch with his Dickinson family was a high priority. He graduated from Mars Hill College in 1969 with a degree in business and finance. In 1988 he graduated from the National School of Banking, in Fairfield, CT. David was an avid traveler, reader, woodworker, car enthusiast, photographer and artist. His interest in art led him to serve for several years as president of the Center for Creative Arts in Yorklyn, DE. He especially enjoyed spending winters in Florida and summers with his Rehoboth “Beach Family”.  But his greatest pleasure was spending time with his immediate family. David was an active member of Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, DE for over 50 years. He was ordained an elder in the church at the age of 28. He served on the cemetery and finance committees and as a Sunday school superintendent, usher and lay reader. David is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judy Loveland, his daughter, Alyson Loveland of Philadelphia, and his son, Jon David Loveland and his wife Gina Loveland of Wilmington, DE. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday, April 19, 2018, at Chandler Funeral Home, Hockessin, DE. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 20, 2018 at Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, 500 McKennans Church Rd in Wilmington, DE. Burial will be held immediately after the service in the church cemetery. Dave was just a joy to be around, and we' ll miss both his smiling face and wicked humour around the pool. Mark Grunza writes,
Dave and I met years ago when we refurbished the Artisans headquarters on 9th Street in town. We later hooked up again to build their gorgeous new headquarters out at Little Falls. The best thing about Dave was his personality. Along with the honesty and integrity that anyone who knew him understood, he was always quick with a joke and just about always had a smile on his face. Alyson, whom I've know since our days at AI over 25 years ago, I truly am very sorry and offer my sincerest heartfelt sorrow to you and your entire family. Your Dad was a true professional and will be missed by any who had the opportunity t know him.

Judy and family Dave hired me April 1996 as a teller. I had no banking experience. Maybe it was because I too was a 1966 graduate of DHS. When Dave visited the branches he was always upbeat and pleasant to everyone. Thoughts and prayers go to you at this most difficult time.
