David Lewis Jr, son of the late David and Frances Lewis. He was born September 10, 1946 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and departed on April 16, 2025 in Wilmington, DE. David was educated in the Philadelphia School System and worked at the Philadelphia Electric Company for over 20 years until he retired.
David was lovingly known as Butch. He came into the truth with his wife, Barbara Jane Lewis and became an elder in the West Philadelphia congregation. David learned sign language with his family and eventually joined the deaf congregation to serve where the need was great. He then moved to Arizona where he continued his service with the deaf congregation.
David was known to love a good thrift find, a solid groove, and was loved by everyone he came in contact with. He took great pride in being one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, even traveling as far as Argentina with his family for an International Convention. One of his favorite places to be was out in field service preaching the good news about Jehovah’s Kingdom, whether it be in Philadelphia or Arizona.
After becoming widowed, David fortunately fell in love again when he met Denise Johnson. They married in 2008 with their bond made stronger by their shared love of Jehovah. David and Denise became a team, sharing the good news across the sunny valley for 13 years. Denise and David continued to share their love of Jehovah and for each other throughout their relocation back to Delaware, and to the time of his transition.
He is proceeded by his parents, David and Frances Yates Lewis, his first wife Barbara Jane Lewis, and sister, Oneida Williams Yates. David leaves to cherish with fine memories, his wife, Denise Lewis, brother, Daniel Lewis and sister-in-law, Patrice Lewis, 5 children, Marsha, Dawn, Sandra, Donnell and Nathaniel; daughter in-law Danyell Lewis, 4 stepsons, Devon, LeVar, DuMaine, Ammar, 14 grandchildren, 34 great-grand children and a host of beloved nieces, nephews and numerous cherished Friends.
