Clarice E. Wolf

Clarice Elaine Marshall Wolf was born on January 19, 1925 in Fort Collins, CO, and moved with her family to a farm in Windom, MN, when she was in the 9th grade. She married Dale E. Wolf on New Year’s Eve, 1945. She died at home on February 23, 2018, surrounded by family.

Clarice Wolf embodied grace and loved without limits. She loved her husband, Dale Wolf, fiercely, for almost seventy-eight years, including the seventy-two years they were married. He was the light of her life, and until the very end, her whole being lit up when he walked into the room. She was the absolutely best mom in the universe and her four children, thirteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren are so very grateful for her persistent loving.

She had a faith you could see, and she never tired of living it. She was committed to working with children in crisis and consistently volunteered with organizations supporting girls struggling with poverty and racism, prisoners and returning citizens, folks living on the streets, community gardens and public art. She invested in raising funds, challenging complacency and indifference, and inviting people to invest in the common good.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to an organization working on behalf of children. The Wolf family has created a scholarship fund for girls from financially challenged backgrounds who are dedicated to helping children. If you would like make a tax deductible gift to this scholarship fund, please send checks to the Wolf Foundation, for Clarice Wolf scholarships, c/o Jim Wolf, 4004 Hillingham Circle, Chadds Ford, PA, 19317.

    Ann Ashmore writes,
Dear Dale and family, while I did not have the pleasure of knowing Clarice, through my P.E.O. sisters, I've learned she was a great friend, loved and admired charter member of Chapter D going back to 1950, a gracious lady, exemplifying her life of faith through service to others and in devotion to her beloved family. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Lovingly, Ann Ashmore

    John and Cara Hardinger writes,
Dale, Jim and all the Wolfs--Clarice was, in a nutshell, and Angel. She had the grace and wisdom common in all great ladies. She was always there for all of you, and for the many "adopted" young people who worked in Ag. She was a role model of class, elegance, honesty, humor, and grace for all of the young people--both men and women, in the Ag business. She tirelessly entertained us in her home, traveled and entertained customers with us at the many conventions and meetings, and in our case was a great friend and close neighbor. Never once, in all of her travels and work, including that period of time while she was in the State Capitol, did Cara or I ever hear her say a cross word or voice a complaint. She was simply tireless in her often difficult and tiring roles as First Lady of the Ag Dept, First Lady of the State, wife to Dale, mother of her children , and community leader. I consider knowing her to be one of the great benefits of having worked for Dupont. May she rest in eternal peace. John and Cara Hardinger.

    Norris and Betsy Tolson writes,
Dale and family: Betsy and I send our condolences to all of you upon Clarice’s passing. Clarice was so special to so many people and especially to all the young “aggies”on Dr. Wolf’s agriculture team. Most of us were fresh off the farm and not big “city familiar”so having Clarice to worry about us a bit was wonderful. Dr Wolf , you know this better than anybody-Clarice was a very special person and all our lives have been especially blessed and enriched just having known her. We will continue to upgird you and the family with our prayers and special thoughts. Our best to you. Norris and Betsy

    JoAnna Barnes Ventresca writes,
I met both Clarice and Dale Wolf when I was a young girl, and Dale was Lt. Governor. Both embodied the meaning of honor, friendship and respect. In recent years when I had occasion to see them at the Methodist Country House, it was always to see both smiling and always genuinely caring for each other and those around them. She will be missed by many, most of all by Dale. My deepest sympathies to Dale and their entire family. JoAnna Ventresca

    Laura Anderson writes,
I worked with Clarice when I was Director of Creative Mentoring and Executive Director of CGI (then Creative Grandparenting, Inc.). Of all the Board members with whom I worked, I held Clarice in highest esteem. She was always a true beacon--available, approachable, always willing to listen and always clearly seeing the best path to take to benefit everyone involved. It's not often that persons of wealth and position remain their true humble selfs throughout their lives. Clarice was that person. My condolences to Dale and to the rest of her large, loving family. She had a good and long life...but she still left us too soon. She will be sorely missed. I am grateful for having had the opportunity to know her. Sincerely, Laura Anderson
