Charles Michael Lacey, age 74, passed away on Wednesday, July 8th, 2020. He was born July 13, 1945, in Philadelphia, PA to Charles Stonestreet Lacey and Gertrude (Pollard) Lacey. He was affectionately known as โMichael, Mr. Mike, and Pop-Popโ to family and friends.ย He graduated from West Philadelphia High School and attended Community College of Philadelphia. Michael was the first of 12 children.
Michael held several positions throughout his life, but his primary career path was as a sheriff for Philadelphia Sheriff Office and supervisor for the Philadelphia License and Inspection Office. Michael served his country in two military branches; in the Navy in 1965 and then the Marines where he received several commendations. He reached the rank of Sergeant in the Marines where he was awarded the Purple Heart, Cross of Gallantry, Bronze Star, Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal 1969, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, and Navy Commendation Medal for his services.
Michael loved the finer and simpler things in life, traveling, counseling young people, staying positive, and ministering to the disenfranchised. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Gertrude Lacey. He leaves behind his loving cornerstone, wife Dr. Alice Colon-Lacey; his daughter Crystal Marie Lacey Esq.; three brothers Patrick, Stephen, Stanley; eight sisters Bessie (Wilson), Lydia (Peterson), Candice (Bridell), Lois, Francine (King), Bernadette Noel-Lacey, Valerie, and Iris; stepchildren Alice Satchell, Gina Satchell, Jeffrey Satchel; ten step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren. Michael also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who considered him as a spiritual father and mentor.
