Charles Leith Munson, Jr.

Charles Leith Munson, Jr., son of the late Dr. Charles Leith Munson and Florence Ely Munson, passed away peacefully at home on March 13, 2018, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Charley was born in Wilmington Delaware in 1938, He graduated from Tower Hill School, attended Duke University and the University of Delaware. He began his career in hotel and restaurant management as Assistant Manager of the Caneel Bay Plantation Resort in St John, U.S. Virgin Islands.  He continued his career with Sohio and Marriott, returning to Delaware to become general manager of the Hercules Country Club where he remained for 30 years until his retirement. Finding himself with extra time, he began a part-time job with Dick’s Sporting Goods, working in his favorite areas of hunting and especially fishing for the past 20 years.

Mr. Munson was predeceased by his parents and sister, Suzanne Crum Winkemeier.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lois Jones Munson, 7 children: Cynthia Roberts, Charles Leith Munson III (Kara), Christopher Farrell (Jennifer), Marianne Amaro (Nathan), Amy Rakestraw (Greg), Arthur Munson, and Will Munson (Christine) and 10 grandchildren.

The family would like to express sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Susan Domchek and Robin Holmes, Clinical Research Nurse at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Michael Guarino and his staff at the Helen Graham Cancer Center, Christiana Hospital, and the caring and compassionate staff of Vitas Healthcare.

Funeral Services

A visitation will be held at the Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike on Sunday, March 18, 2018 from 4:00pm until 6:00pm.  Interment will be private.
