Carl R. Berry, age 78, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully at Seasons Hospice on Wednesday, November, 13, 2019.
Born in 1941 in Elizabethtown, NC, Carl was the son of the late Claude and Mary (Skipper) Berry. He graduated from Lumberton High School in 1960. At 23 years old, he was drafted into the US Army as a Private First Class working with radio communications. After his time in the Army, Carl moved to Delaware and joined the Carpenters Local 626. He retired in 2001 after a 35-year career with the Union.
Carl was a kind and gentle man who enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. His passion was family genealogy and he spent a significant portion of his retirement tracing back his family lineage. He had a strong faith in God, adored animals big and small and enjoyed reading all about American history. He loved antique cars, tv shows about Alaska and watching the Phillies and Eagles play, but only when they were winning.
He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife, Barbara Berry; siblings, Claude Berry Jr., Helen Stallings, and Doris Faircloth.
Carl will be dearly missed by his daughter, Susan Rogers of Murrayville, GA; his daughter, Carla and Brian Umeroglu of Wilmington, DE; his sister, Debra and Lenny Walsh of Apex, NC and his 4 beloved grandchildren, Timothy, Katelyn, Anthony and Madeline.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Carl’s favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
