Byron Young “By” Sellers Jr. beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully on June 24, 2021. His final days were spent, as he wished in his Wilmington home surrounded by his family.
By was born in Louisville, Kentucky. He was the only child of Mary and Byron Y. Sellers Sr. Following high school, he attended the Speed Scientific School at the University of Louisville and was awarded a Masters degree in Chemical Engineering. During the 1955 Kentucky State Fair, By met Alma Elizabeth “Judy” Hancock and so began a 66-year courtship and marriage. They were married in 1956 and after graduation they moved to Parkersburg, WV, where By joined the DuPont Company. By held a variety of manufacturing, research, marketing, and management positions and rose to the Worldwide Director of Engineering for the DuPont Company; he retired in 1997 with 40-years of service. Additionally, By was well known in the Wilmington business world, as he was active in the Del-Mar-Va Boy Scout Council for over 20-years and served as the council president for three terms.
By’s world revolved around his family; upon retirement he enjoyed traveling to visit his children and grandchildren, watching his beloved Louisville Cardinals, Kentucky Wildcats, Eagles, Sixers, and Phillies preferably with Judy, his sons and grandchildren. Additionally, he enjoyed vacationing with the family at The Bayside resort, and especially attending his grandchildren’s little league baseball, and high school ice hockey, field hockey and lacrosse games
By was predeceased by his son Robert Wayne Sellers and his son-in-law Gerard “Jerry” Russo. He is survived by his wife Judy, the love of his life, his daughters Mary Sellers Russo of Honolulu, HI and Susan of Kennett Square, PA; daughter-in-law Vicki Sellers of Pittsville, MD; sons David (Susan) of Houston, TX and John (Kristin) of Kennett Square, PA; grandchildren Lexie (Evan) Blumgart; Brandon (Lauren) Wright; Fisher, Holland, Jacqueline, Ryder, and William Sellers.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest a donation be made to the Boy Scouts of America, Del-Mar-Va Council or to Seasons Hospice of Delaware
