Beverly Quinn Cannon, 98, passed away peacefully at the Summit in Hockessin on July 3, 2021. She was predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Joseph V. Cannon, and her daughter Linda Cannon Graham.
She is survived by her children Donna Julian (Eugene) of Wilmington, Ellen Cannon of Wilmington, Robert Cannon (Cecelia Everet) of Lewes; son-in-law James Graham; grandchildren Elizabeth Julian Weinig (Gregory), Emily Julian Coccaro (Christopher), Jennifer Julian Hopkins (Brian), Randall Graham (Lauren), Abigail Graham (Jim Cavanagh), Patrick Graham (Gabrielle Eisenhower), and Halle Cannon. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren and her sister-in-law Sally Cannon Dorn of Schenectady, N.Y.
Bev was born in Troy, N.Y., to Joseph and Mildred Brock Quinn. She was the salutatorian of her class at Catholic Central High School in Troy, and attended the Troy Business College. She worked in the fledgling television department at General Electric in Schenectady until she married Joe Cannon in January 1945 after he returned from his Air Force service in World War II.
Joe’s career as a PGA of America golf professional took them to clubs in New York, Florida, Virginia and Delaware, and Bev made lifelong friends wherever they lived. In addition to raising her four children, she was an active volunteer in Charlottesville for the Girl Scouts, Holy Comforter School, Recording for the Blind and the Catholic Daughters. In Wilmington, she was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Hockessin and a member of the Legion of Mary. She also volunteered at the Hagley Museum.
Bev and Joe traveled the world playing golf, although Bev didn’t play. While Joe was playing, Bev visited museums and got to know the culture in each place. They visited Ireland, Scotland, Spain, Portugal, France, Monaco, Italy, Scandinavia, Russia, New Zealand, Australia and the Caribbean.
After Joe died in 2017, Bev moved to the Summit from the Coffee Run Condominiums. Again, she made many friends and immersed herself in all the activities, including trivia, bridge, Scrabble, art and crafts, and the Legion of Mary. Everyone adored her because she was outgoing, friendly and genuinely interested in people.
We would like to thank the Summit staff and Vitas Hospice for their loving care during her final week.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707 at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 8, 2021. A viewing will be held prior in the church beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be private.
Donations in her name can be made to the Ministry of Caring, 115 East 14th Street Wilmington, DE 19801-3209.
