Beverly Mills

Beverly Jean Csizmadia Mills passed away at home September 30, 2024 surrounded by family.

Beverly was born a first-generation American in 1942 and grew up near Detroit, Michigan. She married David Lennox Mills, PhD. in 1965, initially settling in Ann Arbor, MI where they had two children. In 1971 David’s career took the family to Edinburgh, Scotland, then in 1972 brought the family back to the U.S. where they settled in Hyattsville, MD. In 1986 one last move brought the family to Newark, DE.

Beverly had many interests including piano, violin, and singing. In 1998, at the age of 56, she earned a double-major BA in History and Music from the University of Delaware. This degree allowed her to also enjoy teaching these arts to underprivileged children. She was known for her work ethic, sense of humor, tongue-in-cheek t-shirts, and numerous hobbies. Chief amongst these hobbies were crocheted afghans which she gifted generously to friends and family. She also enjoyed crafting, gardening and numerous family cats.

She is survived by her 2 children, Eileen Schnitzler and Keith Mills, and 2 sisters, Mary Mason and Andrea Morroney.

Funeral Services

Beverly was adamant that she participate in the University of Delaware’s Anatomical Gift Program.

A Celebration of Life will be held in her memory on Tuesday November 12, 2024 at 2:00pm at Deer Park Tavern, 108 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711-3229.

How very sad we are that Bev has moved on to the next adventure. We met her at the MD Renaissance Festival, where we both had craft exhibit booths in 1986. She would make rounds in the morning with a word written on a piece of paper that was relevant to some, a puzzle to others. Bev had built her own booth and made candles to sell and we were astounded, amazed and smitten with this clearly fey energy source! She never ceased to amaze us: we continued to get together for decades, especially on New Year's Eve (and many other occasions as well), when she would drive to Northern VA to share a pot of stew, jokes and anecdotes, and a warm welcome to the next year. She would bake muffins or breads for breakfast and we continued that welcome until she had to drive back to be with Dave. We loved her so much. We introduced Bev to Bernard's sister (Mary Argent) in London. She and Dave stayed with Mary and the three of them hit it off famously, enjoying London adventures. Mary too is devastated to hear of both Dave's and Bev's deaths. Bev will continue to live in our hearts and memories. We feel so privileged to have known her and treasure the blankets, throws and embroidered works of art she gifted us over the years. How lucky we all were to have embraced this wonderful woman over the years.
