Betty Roane Lord

Betty Roane Lord of Greenville (formerly of Dover, Delaware) passed peacefully at her residence on June 23, 2023.  She was 94 years old.

Betty was born in Hagerstown, Maryland.  She graduated from Hagerstown High School and Goldey Beacom College, then worked for the DuPont Co. in Wilmington for 19 years.

Betty met and married the love of her life, Ralph M. Lord, and they shared 45 wonderful years together.  Betty and Ralph were pillars of their community, with Betty serving on a number of non-profit boards, including the Arthritis Foundation, the Junior Board of Kent General Hospital, and the Advisory Board (Florida) for The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Betty and Ralph also enjoyed spending time at their winter home in Naples, Florida.

Mrs. Lord was predeceased by her husband Ralph and by her brother, Thomas Roane.  She is survived by her sister, Patricia Wilson, of Martinsburg, West Virginia, two nieces, and a nephew.

We would like to thank Betty’s caregivers, especially her personal friend and physician, Dr. Frederick Wigley of Johns Hopkins Hospital, as well as Elizabeth, Leslie and Debbie who provided so much support to Betty over the past few years.

Funeral services will be private.
