Betsy Bice Knox

Betsy Bice Knox, age 91, died on January 17th, 2025.

Betsy, daughter of Ronald and Grace Bice, was born in Pennsylvania and grew up in Wilmington, DE.  She graduated from P. S. duPont High School in 1951, was class valedictorian and received the American Legion Award and the Daughters of the American Revolution Award. Twice elected vice-president of the student government, she also held class offices, represented P. S. duPont at Girls State, was a member of the National Honor Society, Leader Corps, and was chosen outstanding girl athlete.  As a teenager, she won Delaware state junior tennis and swimming championships.

Betsy graduated Cum Laude from Bucknell University in 1955 having been elected to Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Tau Delta, and Delta Mu Delta Honoraries and listed in Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities.  She held numerous offices in the Student Government Association, was elected to Mortar Board, and was vice-president of Kappa Delta Sorority.

An active volunteer, Betsy served as vice-president of Faulk Elementary School PTA, was a docent for ten years at Winterthur Museum, was a member of PEO and of the Junior board of the Memorial Hospital.  She taught Sunday School at Westminster Presbyterian Church and Aldersgate Methodist Church. A member of Westminster, she also served as deacon there.

Betsy is predeceased by her husband of 49 years, John Boyd Knox.  She is survived by her son, Dr. James Bice Knox (Mary Beth) ; daughter, Judith Ann Knox (Robert) ; son, John Ronald Knox (Lexie) ; ten grandchildren – Ryan (Sarah), Grace (Peyton), Elizabeth, Chris, Gray, Briggi, Luke, Jake, Graham, Zuzu, great granddaughter Charlotte and sister, Mary Lou Mulrooney ( Dick).

The family would like to wholeheartedly thank the “angels” at Cokesbury for their endless care, kindness and respect they gave to Betsy.

Funeral Services

A memorial service will be held on February 8th, at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1502 W. 13th Street, Wilmington, DE 19806.  Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
