Barbara Joan Wagner

Barbara Joan Wagner, age 79, of Wilmington, DE., passed away on Monday, May 9, 2022 at Belvedere Nursing Facility in Pennsylvania.

Barbara was born in 1942 in Philadelphia, PA., daughter of the late William and Ellen Keough. Barbara graduated from Nazareth Academy of Philadelphia in 1960. Barber married Thomas R. Wagner in 1963 and they had three children together – Thomas R. Jr., Lisa Jane and Kathleen Marie.

For close to 35 years Barbara worked as a bookkeeper at various car related agencies. She worked at Carson Pettit, Shockley Oldsmobile, Berwyn collision and V & J Coachworks.

Barbara will be eternally remembered as a loving and loyal daughter, wife, mother and friend.

Sadly, Barbara’s husband of over fifty years, Thomas, succumbed to lung cancer on January 6, 2016. Shortly following her husband’s death Barbara’s health dramatically declined. She moved to a Sunrise Senior Living facility to receive the intensive care she required. Initially Barbara’s health stabilized. However, by 2020 her health required even more meticulous care. Barbara moved to Belvedere Nursing facility on September 16, 2020.

The family would like to thank the many friends and family who showed their kindness and support for Barbara and her family as her condition continued to steadily decline. The family is also grateful for the many nurses, aides and caregivers at Belvedere for their kindness and loving care of our mother.

Barbara is survived by her three children, Thomas R. Wagner, Jr., Lisa Wood (Scott) and Kathleen Szczerba (late husband Joe); and two grandchildren, Davis Wagner and Nolan Wagner.

A Visitation will be held on Friday, June 3, 2022 at the Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803 where friends and family may call from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Condolences

Brenda lit a candle and writes,
My sincere and deeply felt condolences to Lisa, Kathy, Tom and the grandchildren Barb so dearly loved. Barbara was my dearest friend-we met at Carson Pettit. Many happy times were enjoyed there with her and with Kitty Hughes and others. How we laughed, and got in trouble with Marge Rettew, for our loud laughing. Barb and I continued to be close friends for the rest of our lives. She was matron of honor for my wedding and Godmother to my youngest child, Christine. I will miss Barbara forever. I'm grateful for the many memories of times we spent together. May she rest in peace and watch over all of us who loved her.

Barb and I met when we were 10 years old and remain friends until the end. We shared so many memories too many to mention here. Had a wonderful time in Italy and our yearly trips to Cape May when our husband's went hunting. She is godmother to my daughter, Debbie. I cannot put into words my loss of my dearest friend and sister. Love and miss you Barb..

Barbara and I met when we were 10 yrs. old at St. Charles Elementary school and continued through Nazereth Academy for high school.
