Barbara Ann Blanchard

Barbara Ann Blanchard died peacefully at her home on January 5, 2019 at the age of 85. She was born and raised in Suffern, NY, daughter of Anthony and Ethel Kennedy, sister to Margaret and Joan. She resided in Wilmington, DE for over 60 years.

An active volunteer all her life, Barbara gave generously of her time and energies to benefit others in a variety of settings. Of special note was her commitment to building a beautiful and well-equipped library at The Mary Campbell Center. The library greatly enhanced the quality of life for long-term residents with intellectual and physical disabilities. Barbara also donated her time and skills to Literacy Volunteers of America, the Newark Food Bank, Girl Scouts of America, and the Delaware Democratic Party.

Surviving Barbara are her three children, Marguerite Dunn, Bobby Blanchard-Lewis, and Neal Blanchard, and their spouses, as well as seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Those who wish to celebrate, and honor Barbara’s life are encouraged to make donations in her name to The Mary Campbell Center, 4641 Weldin Rd., Wilmington, Delaware 19803

    Your Mother, Barbara, was one of my most committed and faithful volunteers at Literacy Volunteers of America when I was the executive director. She wore a variety of hats, tutor, tutor advisor, served on the Steering Committee and an advocate for literacy. She was determined that all people, young and old, should and could learn to read.
