Barbara A. Kolinka

Barbara Ann Kolinka (Smith), age 83, of Wilmington, Delaware, formerly of Hanover, Pennsylvania, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2024 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Barbara was born to parents Philip and Claudine Smith in 1941. She was raised in Hanover, Pennsylvania, and for seven years was a Nun with the Sisters of Saint Joseph. During her time in Hanover, Barbara taught at the Sacred Heart School.

Barbara eventually met the love of her life, Joseph Kolinka. They shared 49 loving years together. Barbara soon became a Mom to children Philip and Mary. Her most beloved time was spent being a Mom, and eventually Grandma. Her home was always filled with love and the candy cupboard was always fully stocked. Barbara always made sure to put a fun, unique twist on everything she did. She was always up for games with the grandkids, especially Checkers and Old Maid.

Barbara will be remembered for her great sense of humor, her love of God, her love of country, and most importantly, her love of family.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband Joseph Kolinka; her children Philip (Jennifer) Kolinka of Topsfield, MA and Mary (Jay) Falkenburg of Wilmington, DE; grandchildren Matthew and Meghan Kolinka and Collin, Lily and Joseph Falkenburg; sister Linda Thomassy of Hanover, PA; brothers Flavian (Joyce) Smith and Kenneth (Sharon) Smith of Hanover, PA; sister-in-law Darlene Smith of Hanover, PA; and many nieces and nephews.

The Kolinka family…. One place I always felt welcome. So many special memories, I don’t know where to begin. Mrs. K., you were one in a million. I’ll miss all of our back and forth banter. Especially, when we would drive Mary nuts. I hope you are having a beer with my Dad up in heaven. Love, Gwen

Mary, I am so sorry for your loss, please accept my condolences. Sending thoughts and prayers. I can’t believe Gwen lost her dad, I lost my mom and now you lost your dad all in the same year, not just the same year but the same season, within two months of each other…it’s just so surreal. My Deepest Sympathy, Amy
