Anne M. Powell

Anne Marie (Shebel) Powell, age 72, of Hockessin, DE passed away on Jan 23, 2024 at Christiana Hospital after a 2 year battle with cancer.

Anne graduated from Elston Sr High School, Michigan City, IN in 1970 just before marrying her sweetheart John Powell. Their marriage of 53 years serves as a testament of love to all those who knew them.

Anne had long careers at both the University of Delaware and AstraZeneca before retiring in 2014.  She was a member of the International Association of Administrative Professionals, Resurrection Parish Council, Indivisible Highlands and Beyond, and was active in the Coffee Run Condominium Community. She loved gardening and was a fantastic chef.  In retirement she was always planning their next trip.  Some of her favorite places included Abiquiu, New Mexico; West Palm Beach, Florida and any of the many US National Parks she visited from Denali to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and many in between.  Spending time with her children and grandchildren was her favorite activity.

Anne will be missed by her loving husband John Powell, daughters Carissa Neubert (Bryan), and Dawn Maloney (Dave), and her grandchildren Elaina Neubert, Jared Maloney, Alexandra Neubert, Kara Maloney, and Erin Neubert.  She is also survived by her siblings Michael (Carolyn) Shebel, Michelle Karlowsky, Mark (Amy) Shebel, and Matt (Mary Kay) Shebel along with many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and countless friends and neighbors.

Friends may call on Friday, February 9, 2024 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Chandler Funeral Home, 7230 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin 19707. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 11:00 am at Resurrection Parish, 3000 Videre Dr, Wilmington, DE 19808. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, Anne would love for you to share a fantastic meal with those you love, and vote in the next election.  Contributions may be made in her memory to Indivisible Highlands and Beyond, https://secure.actblue.com/donate/indivisibleihb881204482 .

Trying to help teens as they navigated life challenges was more than a job. It was a calling, we felt. These were days of joy as well as frustration, successes as well as disappointments, and laughs as well as hard work. Thank you, Anne, for adding so much to my journey. We will miss you!
