Anna Maria VanLieshout

Anna Maria VanLieshout passed away on December 5, 2023 at The Country Rest Home in Greenwood, DE from a glioblastoma.

Ann was born Anna Maria Donckers in Beek, The Netherlands in 1932 and was one of seven children.  After growing up in the midst of World War II she studied bookkeeping in Maastricht as a young woman and worked in her parents’ store.  She married Frank J. VanLieshout in 1954 and they emigrated to Canada in search of more opportunities.  They later emigrated to the U.S. and lived in Pitman, New Jersey for many years, then Matthews, NC for four years and then they finally settled in Milford, DE in 1989.  Ann was a wonderful wife, homemaker, mother and grandmother.  Aside from her family her biggest loves were her church, crocheting, knitting and playing bridge.  She also participated in a curling league in Canada and played a fair amount of golf in Milford.  Ann was widowed in 1998 but after a few years alone she met and married Don Sikes in 2004.  They enjoyed many years together travelling, checking out bakeries everywhere and being with their family and friends.

A church and memorial service will be held at a later date.  Please contact the family or close friends for details.

In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to either – St John the Apostle Catholic Church, Milford, DE,

Ann is survived by her loving husband Don Sikes and her two sons, their wives and five grandsons.  She will be missed terribly and loved always.
