Ann Cross Uhland

Ann Cross Uhland, age 88, of Wilmington, Delaware died peacefully with a grateful heart on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at Christiana Hospital.

Born in 1936 and raised in Parkersburg, West Virginia, Ann cheered, sang in Glee Club, participated in Girls’ State and graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1954.

After a few years of study and work in Columbus, Ohio, Ann returned to Parkersburg and joined the DuPont Company. She met and married a DuPont Chemical Engineer from Dodge City, Kansas, Keith Leon Uhland, on August 31, 1957.

Ann and Keith moved to Charleston, West Virginia and then Wilmington, Delaware where they raised three children and enjoyed the Brandywine Valley together for 65 years.

Ann applied her gifts of loving people, learning voraciously and being creative to enhance her home and community throughout her lifetime. She served for decades as a Spring Docent at Winterthur Museum, in the Altar Guild at Aldersgate United Methodist Church and the hospital Junior Board.  She delighted in the beauty and wonder of family, society, travel, faith, the arts and the natural world.

Ann is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Keith Leon Uhland, their children Susan Uhland Ough (Lawrence), Keith Uhland, and David Uhland (Lori Vollers), her grandchildren Preston Ough, Jules Ough, and Katie Uhland, her brothers Tom Cross and Ernest Cross, Preston’s fiancée Rachel Marine and additional family members.

Ann’s family are truly grateful for the love and zest for life she freely shared. They are also thankful for all of the family and friends whose lives she touched and who touched her life.

A private interment will be held at Lower Brandywine Cemetery in Wilmington, Delaware.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Wilmington Scholarship & Memorial Fund may be mailed to AAUW 1800 Fairfax Boulevard Wilmington DE 19803.

Funeral Services

A private interment will be held at Lower Brandywine Cemetery in Wilmington, Delaware.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Wilmington Scholarship & Memorial Fund may be mailed to AAUW 1800 Fairfax Boulevard Wilmington DE 19803.
