Alexandra “Sandra” Pappas

Alexandra “Sandra” Pappas died on March 12, 2025, at age 85 years old, in Wilmington, DE. Sandra was born in Chester, PA in 1939, to John and Mary (Chilimidos) Pappas. She grew up in Wilmington and attended David W. Harlen Elementary School and P.S. duPont High School (1957). She graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics and went on to receive a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. Sandra taught for 40 years in the Red Clay School District. For her years of dedicated service in education, she received many accolades. Sandra was highly regarded by her fellow teachers and loved by all of her students and their families. Parents often requested that she be their children’s teacher. Over the years, she was often recognized by her former students and greeted with heartfelt appreciation. Her love for children and teaching extended to teaching in summer programs and in Sunday School. Sandra had many extended nieces and nephews whom she absolutely adored. She would often give them children’s books and other educational materials to emphasize the importance of reading as a foundation for their further education.

Sandra was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral and served on the board of its Philoptochos Society. She was also a member of the Hellenic University Club of Wilmington.

Sandra is survived by her loving sister, Catherine (Pappas) Michell, and brother-in-law, Dr. Theodore W. Michell, and her nieces whom she loved with all her heart, Dr. Alexis (Dr. Nicholas) Souleles, Joanna Michell Kayiaros, and Valerie (Dr. John) Roussalis. She also leaves behind her beloved great nieces and nephews, Anna and Katherine Kayiaros, Chrisoula Souleles, and Elias and Theodore Roussalis.

    Julia Goodrick writes,
Sandy taught next door to my classroom at Heritage at the beginning of my career and at the end of her own. She was a dedicated and true teacher. I loved hearing her stories about teaching through the years. I enjoyed getting to know her those few years we overlapped. Sending much love and prayers, Julie (Wozniak) Goodrick
