James Albany Sinex, III

James Albany Sinex, III passed away on December 5, 2022. Jim was born in Oklahoma City in 1939 to the late James Albany Sinex, Jr and Sarah Moberley Sinex.

He spent his early years surrounded by horses and cattle on a ranch in Antelope, West Texas. Jim was a natural athlete. From the time he was nine years old, his father would fly him on a small surplus Navy propeller plane from their pasture in Antelope to Wichita Falls for baseball practice.

Jim graduated from Longview High School. During his high school years, he became an Eagle Scout and excelled at all sports. He continued his education at the University of Oklahoma, where he received a degree of Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering. During his college years, he played baseball for OU, served as President of Sigma Chi Fraternity, was inducted into the Honorary Engineering Society and was lieutenant commander of the ROTC. He was a lifelong OU fan.

Upon graduation in 1962, he married his college sweetheart, Patricia McMahon. He immediately surprised her with a two-year honeymoon in Europe- compliments of the United States Army, where he served as a petroleum officer in Hanau, Germany.

Upon completion of his military service, he continued his post graduate studies at the University of Oklahoma and Stanford University.
He began his career with Conoco Oil Company and later moved to Wilmington when the DuPont Company acquired Conoco.
Jim was an avid golfer and a member of Wilmington Country Club.

He is survived by his wife, Pat, to whom he was married for 60 years, and his daughters: Jennifer Sinex Abramczyk (Jon) and Sarah Sinex Greene (Arin), as well as his grandchildren: Sarah “Raley” Abramczyk, Annie Abramczyk, Albert “Bert” Greene, Mac Greene, and Henry Greene. He is also survived by his sister Sonja Sinex Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Sherry Pyeatt.

What a guy! Knowing Jim through Pat, my college pledge sister & roommate was a real treat. From those OU days to recent years, he loved to tease me, an easy target. He usually caught me off-guard and got the best of me. He was a most interesting individual with a delightful sense of humor whom I will always remember fondly.

Jim was a good friend and a good man. He was an unintended benefit of DuPont's Conoco acquisition. Hours and hours together on the golf course. He will be missed by all of his friends in the Tour Group and elsewhere in the WCC golfing community. Loved OU sports!
