Lois Ann Jacobson

Lois Ann Jacobson, 95, former resident of Wilmington, Delaware, died May 6, 2024 in Austin, Texas.

Lois was born in 1928 in Superior, Wisconsin. With her father leading construction for the civil service, Lois grew up all over the American West and was especially fond of Red Lodge, Montana. She developed a passion and talent for art from a young age. She pursued this talent, specifically watercolor painting, throughout her life, incorporating it into several volunteer missions as well as a small business.

After World War II, Lois met and married Howard “Jake” Jacobson while at the University of North Dakota. They moved to State College, Pa. Where Lois ran the Student Union at Penn State University while Jake earned a PhD and taught chemistry. Pursuing a career with Dupont, they moved to Wilmington Delaware. Lois was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church, bringing her art talents to lead the extremely successful Charis Crafts, a volunteer church organization whose profits from sales funded many church programs. She was active in Crest Century Club, Flower Market, and a docent at the Delaware Art Museum. Lois had incredible talent in needlework and painting, eventually showing and selling her artwork in both Delaware and Red Lodge, where she spent her summers in later years. She was fondly named “Grammy” by her family. Her keen sense of humor and brilliant smile will be greatly missed.

Lois is survived by her son, Dr Kurt Jacobson and his wife Debby of Columbus Georgia; daughter Karen Jacobson Killeen and husband Robert of Austin, Texas; plus, four grandchildren, Katie Jacobson Dion, Dr. Kevin Jacobson, Kade Killeen, Kara Killeen and one great grandson Gardner Dion.

A private burial service will be held at Lower Brandywine Cemetery, Centreville.

Contributions can be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 900 N. Washington Street, Wilmington, Delaware 19801 or to the All Nations Garden Club, 122 Hauser Ave South, PO Box 1871 Red Lodge, Mt 59068.

    Diane M Olin White writes,
Dear Family, Lois was such a creative and fun person to be with. I loved working with her at Grace and visiting her beautiful home in Red Lodge with my late husband, Jack. We often talked about those visits and her being the best tourist guide. (The pig races were a hit of our second visit.) Know that I've not had an updated address with which to write her. Her many paintings that grace my home will long be cherished. She was a treasure, and I was honored to know her. Deepest condolences and prayers.
