Lawrence A. Ramunno

Lawrence A. Ramunno, 71, of Chadds Ford, PA, passed away at his home in the early morning of April 19, 2023 after a seven month battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.  He was known by his family and friends as Larry.

As a young boy Larry grew up on New Castle Avenue with his two brothers, L. Vincent Ramunno and Leo John Ramunno.  He attended Holy Spirit Catholic School, Salesianum High School in Wilmington, the University of Delaware where he was a political science major and the Delaware Law School where he earned his Juris Doctorate Degree in 1977.  Thereafter, he became a member of the Delaware Bar and practiced law in Delaware for 45 years.

As a young boy, Larry helped in his parents’ pizza shop, Pizzarama, on New Castle Avenue folding pizza boxes with his younger brother.  While in high school, he worked at The Wilmington Dry Goods on Market Street in the rug department.  In college, he worked at his parents’ hotel in Rehoboth Beach, The Yellow House, later known as the Summer Place Hotel.

As a young lawyer, Larry became a prosecutor in the Delaware Attorney General’s Office in Wilmington where he was a deputy AG in the Arson unit.  He then went on to work in his brother’s firm, Ramunno & Ramunno, P.A., where he handled various cases including criminal defense, family law, real estate, collections, wills and estates, workman’s compensation and personal injury.  Later in his law career his primary focus was personal injury law.  Larry helped many clients as a lawyer and was very much loved and admired by his clients for his patience, guidance, kindness and impeccable knowledge of the law.

Larry enjoyed an active life up until he was diagnosed with cancer in September 2022. He enjoyed boating, spending time with family and friends at the beach house, exercising, working outside and biking.  In fact, he had just completed a 25 mile bike race in Dover prior to his diagnosis.  He took many trips with his family to Sicily to visit extended family, Florida, the Delaware beach, the Poconos, skiing trips with the Wilmington Ski Club and many cruises.  One of his last trips was to Michigan and Mackinac Island in the Upper Peninsula.

Larry was an extremely devoted family man especially to his mother who passed away in 1999.  He sacrificed his life and worked hard for his wife and children. He always helped his family and he was a one of a kind, special man to his family. His greatest joy was making his family happy.  He always referred to his wife and children as “joya.”  He especially loved his aunts, uncles and cousins in Aidone, Sicily.

It would be wrong to say that Larry lost his battle with cancer because he never stopped fighting during these past seven months.   No matter how sick he was or what curve ball was thrown his way, he was always determined to fight for his life. When anyone else would have given up, Larry stayed strong to the bitter end. Through him, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. There was no quitting in Larry. Just because he is no longer here, it doesn’t mean he lost his fight.

Larry was predeceased by his parents, Rosario Ramunno and Maria Ramunno (nee Cuciuffo).  He is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years, Lorraine M. Ramunno, his three devoted children, Lorenzo, Louis and Liam, two brothers, L. Vincent Ramunno and Leo John Ramunno, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

My last conversation with my cousin Larry was this past August 2022 and we were talking about my trip to Aidone Sicily. We were chatting about how his family and mine would take the trip this summer of 2023. My cousin Larry was the sweetest soul. As a kid I remember our moms would get together and chit chat and I would just listen to his moms sweet voice as she was older then my mom. He absolutely adored his mom and all three siblings most definitely got their work ethics from Zia Ramunno. Larry and my brothers were closer in age so he would visit from DE when I was a kid living in PA. Then we attended his wedding 32 years ago when Larry married his sweetheart Lorraine. Larry’s life became complete when he created a family and he shared all his love with his wife and three kids. He was one of kind. I love ya Larry and one day we will meet again. For now enjoy eternity with your mamma. Heaven gained an angel when you left earth.

We all met in Aidone few years ago. I remember Larry as a fun man, such a hard working professionist and a devoted husband and father. We all truly wished we could have met again and enjoy some Italian wine together, talking about politics and society as we used to. He will remain in our heart and memory and I'm sure he will keep providing his support to the family from above. Our prayers, love, affection go to Larry in heaven and to the family in such difficult time. He suffered too much in these months, so let's take this a relief from all that pain that an amazing man like him truly didn't deserve at all. We love you Savina, Alan and Maria

So sorry to hear about Larry. We went to high school and college together where we both majored in Poly Sci and found ourselves again in so many classes together just as we did in high school. Tenui Nec Dimitam was our high school motto: "I have held and I will not give up.". He showed by his courage in this fight that HS motto sustained him. Always a gentleman and a wonderful classmate. Rest in Peace, Larry, my friend. May his courage sustain his family now. My condolences to all. John Kafader
