Jane Renee Martin

Jane Renee Martin, age 75, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully at Accent Care Hospice at Wilmington Hospital on December 10, 2022, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease and Lymphoma. She was our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Born to Ruth and Richard Roessle in the Bronx, New York in 1947, Jane fell in love with reading and dance early on in her life. She enjoyed ballet and equestrian riding as a teen and young adult.

Jane was a student at NYU, and started her career working in the movie industry. She then worked at the March of Dimes where she worked on grant writing and other important projects, and built her vast medical vocabulary that would lead some to call her “Doctor Jane.” Jane, along with Cam and Joy, moved from New York to Delaware and embraced the roles of wife, mother and homemaker. She was actively involved at Wilmington Friends School. Later in life, she restarted her career in Marketing and Public Relations at local organizations such as Junior Achievement, the Delaware Symphony, and then she embraced one of her favorite roles working with The Copeland String Quartet. She also took great joy in her cherished book club and her work at The Writers Studio.

Jane is predeceased by her parents, sisters Joan and Barbara, and sweet granddaughter Grace Emilie.

Surviving her are her husband of 50 years, Cameron J. Martin, daughter, Joy Martin Soudant, (Brian), brother, Richard Roessle (Sheila), beloved cousin, Kathie Lien, and her most precious grandson, Jack. She is also survived by her cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Jane had a generous spirit, a huge heart, a devilish sense of humor, and an infectious laugh that often got her into trouble. She was an avid reader and writer, amazing chef, lover of the arts, Fanilow, and tea aficionado. “Mimi” could often be found watching the birds, whipping up a gourmet meal filled with love, or making cookies for JJ. She had a blast learning Italian and going on a few special travel adventures with her family and friends. Jane was a creative and graceful soul with a gift for the art of conversation. She also made the most amazing Jumbo Lump Crap (no that’s not a typo!) Cakes. Jane leaves behind a legacy of love and friendship, and the ability to make magic during the holidays and at home. We are blessed to have had her in our lives, and will carry her with us forever.

Jane’s family would like to thank and express deep gratitude to the amazing nurses and nursing assistants (Sioe, Nancy, Sally, Ali, Carmen, Angela, Sam, and countless others), doctors (Dr. Mike, Dr. Heidi Kozic, Dr. Kremens), caregivers (Phyllis, Debbie, Janet, Daysha, Sharon), and staff at Christiana Hospital, Wilmington Hospital and Cadia Rehabilitation Silverside who supported her and the family over the last few months.

In lieu of flowers, a contribution in memory of Jane may be made to either The Michael J. Fox Foundation at give.michaeljfox.org or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at lls.org.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 16th at 11:00AM at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803 with a tea service to follow.

I’m so very sorry for the loss of Jane. She was a vibrant, beautiful woman. And I remember the “crap” cake story. A life well lived, indeed.

I will deeply miss Jane. I am a PT at NeuroFitness Therapy who worked with Jane. She was a light and brightened up the room. Her friends that had therapy with her at that time miss her tremendously as well! I so wish she could have gone with us to Barry Manilow. We had tickets early on in the lymphoma stages I believe. I wish you could’ve went with myself and my mom I know she would’ve loved it as she was an avid Fanillow just like we are. We would crank up Barry Manilow on Alexa when she was at therapy and sing loud! She’s definitely up in heaven singing can’t smile without you! 💗💗💗

We at Neurofitness loved Jane so much. She was always beautiful, elegant, and even a bit devilish. During the early stages of Covid, if I had to step away from taking patients’ temperatures for a moment to help someone, I could count on coming back to find Jane doing it for me! I have hilarious pictures of her taking temps. What a lady!

SOUDANT ROBERT lit a candle and writes,
For the past dozen years, Mary Anne and I have joined Cam, Jane, Joy, Brian, and eventually Jack for Thanksgiving in Delaware. For all those years the visit has been an annual highlight event with good company, great food and permanent memories. I learned from an earlier comment that Crap Cake is not a typo because I had thought it was an error on the wedding menu. I still have that menu in my office and had intended to someday ask Brian about what turns out to be ignorance on my part. Jane was a marvelous hostess and with Cam, they ran a kitchen to be remembered. For Jane, we wish Fair Winds and Following Seas.

She isn't gone, she just isnt here. You will feel her presence from time to time. And that will be her way of letting you know that she is still with you. I really believe that's true. My mother passed away in 1987. And she still let's me know,in her own way, that she is still with me. I hope you can take comfort in knowing that, Cam. Joe
