Rose Carroll Lawrence Dale

Posey Lawrence Dale died on October 17, 2022, one day after her 102nd birthday.  Family members were with her before and at her passing.  She was loved by many.

Posey grew up in Nyack, NY, in a beautiful home on the Hudson River.  Her love of the river continued throughout her lifetime.

She attended school in Nyack, graduated from Wellesley College and earned a Master’s Degree of Education from the University of Delaware.  She focused on women’s lives and continued that commitment throughout her life.

Posey lived most of her adult life in Wilmington, Delaware, and moved to Kendal at Longwood for the last 22 years of her life.  She valued many elements of her life at Kendal, especially friends, old and new, the music and the gardens.  In later years, walking in the gardens was one of her greatest pleasures.  Her love of music included playing the piano, singing in several choruses and loving organ music.

Posey was a guide at Winterthur Museum for 25 years, enjoying the history and the furnishings.  She became a painter later in life and also a writer of her life stories.

Posey loved her family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  For many years, she hosted family members at the wonderful home of the Langmuir’s on Martha’s Vineyard.  Such a gathering place was fun for and important to the family,

She was predeceased by husbands Hicks Lawrence, Jr. and Charles Dale, a brother, three sisters, son Terry and a granddaughter.  She is survived by her daughter Marianna, son William, step-daughters Barbara and Jessica, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Condolences

    Faith A Fitzgerald writes,
I love talking to Posey I live with her sister, Dorothy Carroll for many years and West Chester. Posey was very engaging and interested in everything you talk about. I know she’ll be greatly missed and it’s amazing that she lived as long as she did.
