Francis Joseph Schneider Jr.

Francis Joseph Schneider Jr., age 83 of Bonita Springs, FL, and Ocean View, DE, formerly 5th generation proud Delawarean of Wilmington, DE died on October 10, 2022.

Fran “The Duke” was born in 1939 to the late Francis and Pauline Schneider (Hitchens). He attended St. Patrick’s, Salesianum, and P.S. DuPont High school. Later attending the University of Delaware.

Fran was retired from the State of Delaware where he was the Director of Apprenticeship and Training programs and later worked at the Appoquinimink School District as an administrator. Fran served in the US Marine Corps from 1956-1960 and then became a police officer for the City of Wilmington for 7 years. Fran served 3 terms as a New Castle County councilman.

Fran was an avid hunter and lifetime member of Ducks Unlimited. For the past 25 years, Fran has spent a lot of time on the golf course as a member at Bear Trap, Cripple Creek, and Vasari Country Clubs.

Fran enjoyed a good Manhattan, a good book, new adventures traveling the world and off roading in his jeep. He could always tell a good story, had a great sense of humor, could make anyone laugh and got his inspiration from the comics in the paper. His family and friends were everything to him.

He is survived by his wife, soulmate, and love of his life, Henrianne Schneider (Noskow) of 37 years; his children Jon Schneider (Wendy), Tracy Pritt, and his four grandchildren Stephanie Schneider, Jacob Pritt, Kurt Schneider and Scott Schneider (Meredyth); his sisters Barbara DeHart and Carol Misiewicz and 5 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Mary Lou Montgomery.

In lieu of flowers, the family recommends donations to Ducks Unlimited, the American Lung Association, Mote Marine Laboratory, or a charity of your choice.

A life well lived, a life well loved, and that light of goodness in the world has diminished with his passing.

Aw, Franny; now you, too. God speed and rest in peace, old friend. "Stars fade like memory the instant before dawn. Low in the East the sun appears, golden as an opening eye. That which can be named must exist. That which is named can be written. That which is written shall be remembered. That which is remembered lives." -Papyrus of Ani
