Marilyn Von Wald, age 82, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2022.
Marilyn was born in Loup City, Nebraska and was raised in Gettysburg, South Dakota. Marilyn received her teaching degree from Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Marilyn and her husband John Von Wald moved to Delaware in 1962 when he was hired by DuPont.
Marilyn was known for her vivacious, bubbly, and energetic personality. There was never a dull moment when Marilyn was present. Prior to starting a family, she was an elementary teacher and an art teacher. Marilyn owned and operated a dance studio in Kennett Square for many years. She was a cheerleading coach at Kennett High School and was a substitute teacher there for several years. Gardening was one of her true passions and she enjoyed spending time in her beautiful flower garden. She loved traveling the world. Marilyn lived in Japan with her family for three years where she learned Japanese flower arranging (ikebana) and studied Japanese art. She had an artistic flair and loved to decorate. Marilyn was a very talented artist. She painted on both canvas and china, and created several beautiful wall murals. Marilyn was extremely proud of her grandchildren and cheered on their many achievements and activities.
Marilyn passed away after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband John Von Wald, her sister Idonna Wrightsman, and her brother Bill Coppersmith. Marilyn will be dearly missed by her daughters, Sue Martin (Eric) and Christine Rider; and grandchildren, Olivia, Emily, Danielle, Andrew, Shane and Dylan.
