Christopher J Halligan, 57, of Old New Castle, Delaware passed away suddenly on April 28th, 2022. Chris was born in 1964 in Wilmington Delaware to the late Donald and Anna Claire (Cryan) Halligan. He attended Claymont High School Class of 1982 and graduated from the University of Delaware in 1993. He proudly served his country as a United States Marine, stationed in Hawaii and North Carolina.
He was employed at Chrysler Corp. for many years before beginning a second career as a registered nurse, graduating from the University of Delaware in 2010. Chris showed great care and compassion for his patients, and he eventually became a mental health nurse practitioner in 2019.
He enjoyed reading, walking, surf fishing, and expressing himself artistically through drawing and sculpting. Despite his tall height, he was more often someone you heard before you saw him, poking fun and giving you a big sideways grin. He had a sharp wit and a big personality that matched his size. His quieter side was equally present, and he channeled his natural empathy into a career caring for others. Perceptiveness was one of Chris’ many strengths. He was always able to read the room as it truly was in that moment. Chris’ first love was his family, and he was a dependable and compassionate father who held a deep pride and love for his three daughters. Chris was a tremendous source of comfort when needed and always offered insightful advice.
He is survived by his daughters, Leah, Susannah, and Brenna, their mother Deborah Tritelli Halligan, his siblings Ellen Freed (Mick) and Don Halligan (Emily). Chris is also survived by his well-loved nieces and nephews. Chris’ love for his family was very important, and he stayed closely connected with his siblings throughout his life.
We love you, Chris!
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, May 6th from 1-2:00 pm at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pile, Wilmington, DE 19803, followed by a memorial service at 2pm at Chandler Funeral Home. Burial is private.
