Katherine (O’Donoghue) Satinover, age 71, of Ardentown, Delaware, a fifth generation Washingtonian, passed away on Saturday April 2, 2022 at her home in Ardentown, Delaware. She was the daughter of the late Roger and Antoinette O’Donoghue, of Washington, D.C.
Katherine was a graduate of Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School in Washington, D.C. and earned her Bachelor’s in Anthropology from The University of Maryland (College Park).
She married her high school sweetheart, Edward Satinover, in February 1971 and enjoyed a happy and loving marriage of 51 years. Katherine and Ed were blessed with three children, Damien Satinover, Bridget (Satinover) Nichols, and Nicholas Satinover – to whom she was a caring, nurturing, devoted and loving mother. She was also very close to her daughter-in law, Kimberly, son-in law, Mark, and Nicole Sult, and welcomed them into her family with open arms.
Katherine loved nothing more than to spend time with her five grandchildren, Lucius Satinover, Isabella Satinover, Shyleigh Sult, Trent Nichols, and Raegen Nichols.
Anyone who knew Katherine also knew she loved the beach and would never turn down an invitation for a day in Stone Harbor with her best friend Diane, or a week (or two!) in Nagshead with her family. She loved watching the ocean for dolphins, searching for sand dollars on the beach, and riding the waves on her raft. Katherine was also a voracious reader. She could usually be found carrying a mystery novel or Ellery Queen magazine, and she never lost her love for science. She loved reading Science News and National Geographic. Katherine’s family and friends knew her as a sweet, gentle, and beautiful soul with a brilliant mind. She loved animals, especially cats, and any kind of family gathering and party.
In her early fifties, Katherine took up running and completed her first Marathon race in Walt Disney World, something she was very proud of. She continued to run for many years, completing several half-marathon races at Disney World. In the summers, she swam a mile almost every day at the Arden Swim Club. She loved the Washington Redskins, something she inherited from her father, and she was also a fanatic Philadelphia Phillies fan. She and Edward attended the longest Phillies game in history – it lasted six hours and eleven minutes. They stayed until the end.
In addition to her husband, children, and grandchildren, Katherine is survived by her four sisters Mary Ellen Harrison, Virginia O’Donoghue, Martha Bozzi-Sargent, Jean O’Donoghue, and her brother Roger O’Donoghue, Jr.
A Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Arden Gild Hall, 2126 The Hwy, Arden, DE 19810. Burial will be private.
