Dominick J. Trapasso, III

Dominick Joseph Trapasso III passed away on April 2, 2022, in Newark, Delaware, at age 68.  Dominick grew up on Long Island in East Islip, New York.  Through his intelligence, hard work, and determination, he earned a scholarship to New York University and became the first person in his family to graduate from college.  He graduated from NYU in 1975.

On June 5, 1976, Dominick’s great life adventure began when he married the love of his life, Cecilia (nee Walter) Trapasso.  Dominick and Cecilia met and fell in love instantly and were married within a year of meeting.  This love was always present in their 46-year marriage. Dominick and Cecilia were blessed with four children, Dominick Joseph Trapasso IV, Christine Ulrich, Justine Walker, and Jonathan Trapasso.  Dominick was an amazing father who provided his children with a wonderful childhood filled with family dinners, vacations, sports, and always lots of laughter.

He was so grateful to his daughters-in-law, Stephanie and Louise, and sons-in-law, Jonathan and Will, for providing so much joy to his children and welcomed them lovingly into his family.

Dominick worked tirelessly in his career to provide the best life for his family.  Dominick began his career in retail logistics and served as an executive at, among others, Charming Shoppes, Linens n’ Things, EMCO Sales and Service and Oneida over his 30-year career. Dominick instilled in his children the importance of hard work to achieve your goals.

One of Dominick’s greatest joys in his life was his role as grandfather.  He was the proud “Pa” of eleven beautiful grandchildren, Evelyn, Charlie, Grace, Oliver, James, Lily, Siena, Frederick, Dominick, William, and Susanna.  Pa was silly and playful and loved to spend time with his grandchildren.  He never missed a birthday, special event, or sports game.  He will live on his grandchildren who will treasure their memories of Pa.

Despite looking the part of the strong silent type, conversations with Dominick were a treasure to those who knew him, and whether you were paired up with him on the golf course, kept the same early hours at the gym, a business associate, or just chatting with him in a restaurant, he had a gift and joy for learning about people and seeing how he could make their days better.  Dominick’s care and inimitable presence will survive in those he touched, including lifelong friends and those he mentored.

Dominick and Cecilia had recently moved to Avondale, Pennsylvania and were enjoying a quieter pace of life.  Dominick loved to play golf and tennis and developed a recent interest in gardening.  Dominick and Cecilia enjoyed each moment together and continued to make each other laugh every day.  They were best friends and true soulmates.  He will be missed immeasurably by his family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 pm on Thursday April 7, 2022 at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 7 Sharpley Road, Wilmington, DE where a visitation will begin at 11:00 am.

Dominick was a wonderful man who left us all too soon. I got to meet him when our son Will became engaged to his daughter Christine. Dominick welcomed into his family and home, and we spent many wonderful holidays and family occasions together. He was always friendly, witty, and fun-loving. He will be sorely missed. My wife Terry and I send our deepest sympathies to Cecilia and the family. Peter

The memories of almost 40 years our families have shared together will be with us forever. We can smile thinking back to shared vacations, Xmas eves, the weddings of our children and the stories shared about our grandchildren. It will be a while before we can laugh again recalling Dom's humorous telling of a story, even when he himself may have been the subject of the joke. It didn't matter! We laughed until the tears flowed from all of us. We love you all Trapassos and thank you for sharing so much of your family lives with ours. In time the sad tears will pass and then we can share the memories of the man we loved so very much. Love, Rick and Joyce

I'm so grateful to have called Dominick my boss, mentor and friend for almost 30 years! He was a terrific person and someone I learned a tremendous amount from both personally and professionally. He loved his family so much and always maintained that as his #1 priority. Although Dominck is no longer with us (which is a tremendous loss for so many) he will never be forgotten. Words can't adequately describe our sincere condolences for the man you called Husband, Father, Pa and Friend. Jay and Christine Kent
