Patricia Weldon

Patricia Weldon of Hockessin, DE, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2022 at the age of 86.

Pat grew up in Mount Carmel, PA with her parents, Edna and Joseph York, and her brother, Bob.

She met the love of her life, Bill Weldon, while in high school. After graduation, she went on to study Biology and English at University of Pennsylvania for two years before transferring to Bucknell University from where she graduated 1957.

Immediately after graduation, she and Bill were married and Pat started teaching soon afterwards. She and Bill lived in Pennsylvania, California and New York and had their two children before settling in Delaware to be close to A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children to get the excellent care they needed for their daughter with cerebral palsy.

It was shortly after their move to Delaware that Pat started her 40 year career at CACC Montessori in Hockessin. “Miss Pat” was a beloved kindergarten teacher to hundreds of children, including her own granddaughters. Being a teacher and caregiver, to her daughter, elderly mother, and husband when he fell ill, was her calling in life. Pat was an avid reader and an animal lover but when her granddaughters were born they became her true joy. She shared a very special bond with them.

Pat was preceded in death by Bill, in 2011, her granddogs Molly and Bear and her grandcat Cole.

She will be dearly missed by her treasured daughter Beth, devoted son Will and daughter-in-law Jenni, and cherished granddaughters Alie & Meggie as well as her granddogs Owen and Bridget. She is also survived by her brother Bob, his wife Nancy and their children.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022 from 10-11:00 am at Chandler Funeral Home, 7230 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will be private at a later date.

I still have notes that she wrote to Ryan when he was in her class, her thank you notes being particularly poignant. She touched the lives of so many--and not just children. She left quite a wonderful impact on the world! Our love and condolences to the whole family. From Ryan, Susan & Reid

Dear Will and Family, I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your Mom. I have such great and fond memories of your parents and the times "you boys" got together at my home in Hickory Hills. Your Mom was very special and there was no one more loved by her than her children. I know she will be sorely missed. Your parents and family will be in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this difficult time. Pat Resine Mother to the Imbalzano children.

    CACC Montessori School writes,
Miss Pat was the cornerstone of CACC Montessori School for 40 years and upon her retirement, we named our library after her, to honor her love of books and teaching. Pat was the epitome of a Montessorian, but, like the willow tree, she could also bend and borrow from another educational philosophy to enrich her classroom. We all remember Miss Pat as having "joie de vivre" , a sense of humor, a strong sense of justice, a love for what she did and for the students who were blessed to enter her classroom. With love and respect CACC Montessori staff

    Michael Odonoghue writes,
Mrs. Weldon will forever be at the center of so many great memories of “the boys” of Hickory Hill. Mrs. Weldon sat on her swing and calmly lifeguarded for the Odonoghue boys (and several other neighbor kids) for so many great summers. The Weldon Pool was legendary. Even after I went off college, I would return to see new kids making a splash and I would always enjoy catching up with the Weldon’s. Mrs. Weldon was so very smart with a keen wit and she may be the most patient person I have ever met. I will miss her deeply. - Michael
