I. Peter Gonzalez

I. Peter Gonzalez, age 89, of Wilmington, Delaware passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at his home.

He was born in Havana, Cuba, and made Wilmington, Delaware his home in 1960.  Peter retired from Astra Zeneca in1993 after working there for 33 years.

After Peter retired, he started a company that provided meeting planning services to pharmaceutical companies. He also volunteered his time to serve on the condominium board at Park Plaza.

Peter and his wife, Maria, enjoyed traveling all over the world visiting friends he had made while working in export sales.  They both enjoyed meeting new people, and learning and experiencing different cultures.

Peter was preceded in death by his wife Maria J., and is survived by his son, Izzy (Jenny) Gonzalez of Wilmington; two daughters, Maria V. (Scott) Schaffer of Chadds Ford and Carmen M. (Stephen) Chick of West Chester, seven grandchildren, Molly F. Gonzalez of Wilmington, Christopher A. (Alyssa) Gonzalez of Plymouth Meeting, Scott M. (Emily) Schaffer of Wilmington, Ryan J. Schaffer of Chadds Ford, Brandon L. Chick of New York; Abigail M. Chick of West Chester and Katelyn M. Chick of Downingtown and four great grandchildren; Nicholas and Benjamin Gonzalez of Plymouth Meeting, and Grayson and Weston Schaffer of Wilmington.

The family is grateful for the loyal and devoted home health aides who provided excellent care for our father.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church, 10 Old Church Road, Greenville, where friends may visit from 10:30 am to 11:00 am.  A private interment will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Peter’s memory may be sent to The Capuchin Poor Clares, St. Veronica Giuliani Monastery, 816 Jefferson Street, Wilmington, DE 19801 or the Ministry of Caring, 115 E. 14th Street, Wilmington, DE  19801.

Funeral Services
