Spencer Qualls

Spencer Qualls, age 98, of Greenville, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at Stonegates Community, with his beloved wife Joyce by his side.

Spence was born in Buena Vista, Ohio, but later resided in Springfield. He served with pride as a Corporal in the US Army, 9th Air Force Service Command, during WWII. While in England he met the love of his life, Joyce Cardwell. They were married for 75 years and theirs was a true love story. With Joyce by his side, they worked their way up from living in a garage in New Jersey after the war, to building houses, to owning and operating several businesses. He was a self-made man who loved life. He and Joyce rode a motorcycle into their 70’s, were snowbirds in Florida into their 80’s, and never thought about their age. Friends remarked to Joyce and Spence that they should write a book about their life story. He was generous to his family and always had a good joke to tell. He will be missed.

Spence was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert Qualls and Lily Vickers Qualls, his two infant daughters Annette and Gail, and his great grandson Michael Spence. He is survived by his wife and soulmate of 75 years, Joyce Cardwell Qualls, his son Spencer J. Qualls (Kristine) and daughter Linda Qualls Kieffer (Chuck). He is also survived by eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

The family wishes to extend thanks to the nursing staff at Stonegates Healthcare and Seasons Hospice for being his angels.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
