Florence McCann

Florence Grano McCann of Wilmington, Delaware entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 11, 2021. She was 95 years old.

Florence was born in Queens, New York to Andrew and Concetta (Mary) Grano, both of Palermo, Sicily. After high school, Florence was enrolled in one of the first classes of the then brand new Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan where she learned to design and make the beautiful dresses that became one of her lifelong hallmarks. Marriage to Alex in 1962 took Florence away from fashion and New York, but she never lost her love for either.

Florence loved gardening and family, quiet mornings with a cup of coffee, and smiling. She was fiercely loyal to her three sons, and devoted to her five grandchildren.

Florence is survived by her sons Alexander P. McCann, of Wilmington, Delaware; Andrew and Sharon McCann of North Andover, Massachusetts, and their children Megan and Kathryn; and Douglas and Suzanne McCann of Hockessin, Delaware, and their children Mary, Ryan and Claire, as well as many nieces and nephews. She has now joined Alex, her husband of 53 years, her sisters Helen and Marion, and brothers Andrew and Richard. She made our world a brighter place.

A visitation will be held Monday, August 16, 2021 from 9:30-10:30 am at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church, 10 Old Church Road, Greenville, DE 19807. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 16, 2021 at 10:30 am at St. Joseph on the Brandywine. Interment to follow at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to Talleyville Fire Company, 3919 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803.
