Joanne H. Price

Joanne H. Price, a longtime resident of Greenville, died May 2, 2020 after a long illness. She was 89.

Mrs. Price was born Joanne Harrington in 1930 in Fall River, MA, the daughter of Francis J. and Harriet I. (Deasy) Harrington.

Mrs. Price was raised in Fall River and Milton, MA, where she graduated from high school.  She was a 1950 graduate of Lasell College in Newton, MA.

Mrs. Price moved to Delaware after marrying the late Dr. Robert E. Price, Jr. Together, they raised two sons, Robert E. Price, III, and Christopher L. Price.

In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Price was involved in a number of community and charitable organizations.  She was a volunteer at the Delaware Art Museum, served as a Special Advocate in Delaware Family Court, and was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s on the Brandywine Parish in Greenville.  An avid golfer, Mrs. Price also was a longtime member of the Wilmington Country Club.

Immensely curious and gifted with a keen intellect, Mrs. Price was a lifelong learner who took classes on a wide range of subjects until very recently.  She visited many countries with her husband and continued traveling after his death, often with her cherished sister-in-law Margaret W. Harrington.

Those who knew Mrs. Price, or even conversed with her for more than a few moments, could not help but sense her intense appreciation of the world’s wonders and her deep need to engage in a spirited and intelligent dialogue with them. This made her, among many other things, a delightful conversationalist and a wonderfully loyal friend.

To see Mrs. Price – with her beautiful eyes wide and ablaze – on the ready to react freshly and sincerely to the thoughts you’d just cobbled together was to be on the receiving end of an extraordinary gift, one that only grew in depth and intensity as the years went by.

Mrs. Price’s husband of 50 years predeceased her in 2005, and her son Christopher passed away in 2015.  She also was predeceased by her brother Robert D. Harrington, brother Francis J. Harrington and his wife Irma, and brother J. Frederick Harrington and his wife Peg.

She is survived by her son Robert E. Price, III, of Sewickley, PA; granddaughters Caitlin Price of Pittsburgh and Meriel Price of Sewickley; sister-in-law Margaret W. Harrington of Westport, CT; niece and goddaughter Susan Harrington and her husband Ted Bohnen of Weston, CT; and several other nieces and nephews and their children.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations in Mrs. Price’s memory may be made to the Brandywine River Museum of Art in Chadds Ford, PA.
