Maria Patricia Tweardy

Maria Patricia Tweardy, age 51, of Wilmington, DE passed away following a long illness Saturday, December 1, 2018 in Newark, DE.

She spent her last days surrounded by the love of her family and many wonderful friends. Maria was born in Hanover, PA and graduated from Spring Grove Area High School in 1985 and Juniata College in 1989. Maria was the daughter of Amil and Hedwig Tweardy of Abbottstown, PA.

She is survived by her mother Hedwig Tweardy, siblings George Tweardy (Ann) of East Berlin, PA, Milan Tweardy (Lisa) of Moorestown, NJ, Claudia Serfass (Jerry) of York, PA, Bettina Riveros (Hugo) of Newark, DE and Karl Tweardy of Richmond, VA. Her nieces and nephews include Nic Tweardy, Neil Tweardy, John Martin Tweardy, Alex Tweardy, Connor Tweardy, Christian Tweardy, Marielle Riveros, Natalia Riveros (God-daughter), Sophia Riveros, Jack Riveros, Tayloe Tweardy, Tristan Tweardy and Tylerson Tweardy.

Maria’s life was filled with many beloved friends and family who stood by her through a challenging illness and filled her life with joyful moments and wonderful celebrations. Maria had exquisite taste in all things. Following a marketing career in the financial and non-profit sectors, she founded a fine gemstone design business, sharing her vast talents and taste with her friends and clients. She was a remarkable woman, a beloved daughter, sister, twin, aunt, Godmother and dear friend to so many who will miss her beyond words.

A visitation will be held the evening of Wednesday December 5, 2018 from 6:00-8:00PM at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Resurrection Parish, 3000 Videre Drive, Wilmington, DE. Interment will be private.
