Dr. Thomas R. Brooks, age 93, died peacefully in his sleep at his residence in Wilmington, Delaware on Thursday, May 31, 2018.
He was born in Scranton, PA in 1925 to Ruth Bill Brooks and Reese Griffin Brooks. He attended Scranton Country Day (where he met his future wife, Audrey), Choate Rosemary Hall, Princeton University, and Jefferson Medical School. He served in the Navy V-12 program as a pre-med trainee, followed by active duty with the Army as a doctor-short during the Korean War, 14 months at sea in the Caribbean and North Atlantic, and 6 months at the Quonset Naval Air Station.
He had a private practice as an Obstetrician and Gynecologist for 34 years, and remained active in reproductive medicine as Medical Director for Planned Parenthood in Delaware and Chair of the Credential Review Committee at the Medical Center of Delaware. A strong advocate for education and literacy, he volunteered for many years for the Literacy Volunteers of America.
He is predeceased by his wife, Audrey Aquin Brooks and his sister Mary Brooks Price. He is survived by his four children, Peter F Brooks (Ceit) of Gig Harbor, WA; Jeffrey G. Brooks (Debi) of Wilmington, DE; Susan M. Brooks (Mike) of Boulder, CO; Sarah E. Quartarone (Bob) of Wilmington, DE; grandchildren Leah (Mike), Annie, Bobby, Peter (Sarah), Grace, Molly, and Abby; great grandson, Jake; nephews James Price, Morgan Price; great nephews Marissa Price, Cole Price, and Jay Price.
He enjoyed golf, tennis, needlepointing, was an avid reader, and loved his dogs. He loved watching the Phillies and University of Delaware football.
