Stanley J. Czerwinski

Stanley John Czerwinski, 92, of Hockessin, Delaware, died peacefully on February 4, 2025 after a long, joyful, and rewarding life. He was the son of Konstanty and Rozalia (Zera) Czerwinski. Stanislaw (Stan) was born in 1932 in an upstairs room of their family home in Browntown, a Polish immigrant community in Wilmington. He was a “surprise” baby and joined his 4 older siblings: Kazimierz (Charlie), Jagwiga (Hattie), Czeslaw (Jessie) and Genowefa (Jenny); all which have preceded him. When he was 2 years old, his father died and he became his mother’s Mój powód do źyci (“my reason for living”), and the joy in her heart.

Stan’s school years started at St. Hedwig Elementary School where he developed his love of learning and quickly excelled in academics. He graduated from Wilmington High (1950), the University of Delaware (BS, 1954) and finished at Temple University (DDS, 1958). He was always most proud and grateful for the scholarships awarded him along the way, including the inaugural H. Fletcher Brown Scholarship and the Dr, Samuel C. Mitchell Scholarship.

After completing his internship at Memorial Hospital, Stan became a founding partner of the Kirkwood Dental Association (KDA), along with (Dr.) Martin Yalisove and (Dr.) Bernie Krestool. It was one of the first group practices in Delaware. He enjoyed going to work every day and created many wonderful memories over his 47 years in dentistry with his KDA family. As for his patients, his captive audience, they will attest to his love of life and to his endless tales of travel, sailing, golf and family.

Stan had many friends over the years who brought much joy and laugher to his life. On any given Saturday in the Fall, you could find him in the UD stadium cheering on his Fighting Blue Hens. He also liked cheering for the Eagles and the Phillies. He was passionate about golf and enjoyed his time on the course with his buddies at Loch Nairn.

But of all Stan’s accomplishments, it was really his family that he cherished the most. He was ever encouraging, ever caring, ever listening and ever with a smile. He is survived by his devoted wife, Arlene (Rand); his loving children: Kim (John Mulhern), Sharon (Caroline Bauer), Stacy (Tim Donald), Debbie (Ross Gibson), Thomas (Jess), and Brenda (Dan Shields); grandchildren: Danny, Molly, Emily, Liz, Erin, Katie, Noelle, Ever, Castor, Wex, Cami, and Aubrey; and great-grandchildren: Charlotte, Katherine, and soon expected great-grandson; along with many nieces and nephews.

May the best of who Stan was, live out in our lives.

A visitation will take place on Saturday, April 19, 2025 beginning at 11:00 AM at Chandler Funeral Home, 7230 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707. A memorial service will follow at 12:00 PM. Burial will be private.
